Gua

 

Gua (czyt. głaa) w języku Nuerów oznacza pokój (dobro), Gua to jeden z najpopularniejszych kawałków południowosudańskiego artysty Emmanuel’a Jal’a, Gua Africa to także założona przez niego organizacja pomocowa. Gua to również tytuł pierwszego albumu artysty, na którym w ramach pojednania utwory śpiewane są po angielsku, arabsku oraz w językach Dinka i Nuer. Emmanuel Jal, pochodzący z okolic Tonj (Tong) w stanie Warrap, podczas wojny domowej jak setki tysięcy południowosudańskich dzieciaków przemaszerował cały kraj do Etiopii, gdzie otrzymał podstawową edukację i został dzieckiem-żołnierzem w szeregach SPLA. Jednak w pewnym momencie los uśmiechnął się do niego, niepokorna pracownica organizacji humanitarnej, Brytyjka Emma McCune przeszmuglowała go z Waat do Nairobi, gdzie zaczął uczęszczać do szkoły i rozpoczął swoją karierę muzyczną. Dziś jest bodajże najbardziej rozpoznawalnym na świecie południowosudańskim muzykiem, a na swoim koncie ma kilka albumów oraz nagrań na składankch:

Historia Emmanuela została także opowiedziana w książce War Child: A Child Soldier’s Story autorstwa  Megan Lloyd Davies oraz przedstawiona w filmie dokumentalnym War Child (2008). Jal zagrał również w filmie Africa United (2010). Oprócz organizacji Gua Africa Emmanuel napędza także ruch We Want Peace (We Want Peace 2012).

Sudan 365: The Beat Continues

A year ago, on January 9 2010, Sudan365 launched a popular campaign with the ‚Beat for Peace’ video. Since then we have built momentum for the campaign, launching another film, ‚Keep the Promise,’ in September. This campaign has engaged over 200,000 people who have watched the video, signed up to petitions and engaged with our social media. Three prominent international public mobilisations, branded as ‚Global Days of Action,’ have taken place from Belfast to Bamako, Serbia to South Sudan. These events have ranged from rallies to panels, with most including a ‚Beat for Peace’ drumming session and Sudan365 branding.

The second recut of the video was adapted into personalised DVDs and delivered to prominent international leaders in the Comprehensive Peace Agreement guarantor states. The international community has notably increased their engagement in Sudan over the course of the campaign — however, to augment the progress made, they must continue to have a role in promoting the peaceful future of Sudan.

This third recut film is an effort to mark the culmination of 365 days of campaigning, coinciding with the scheduled start of referendum voting in Sudan. The film acknowledges the efforts of politicians and the public and asks them to sustain this focus on Sudan. It highlights that, regardless of the result of the referendum vote, much needs to be done to ensure violence is averted and that the developmental needs of Sudan are met. The film calls on Sudanese leaders to work towards a peaceful future.

The Sudan365 campaign will continue after the referendum, to remind the public and the international community that the referendum vote on January 9 2011 is not the end, but marks the beginning of a new challenge for Sudan.

Dział muzyczny rozpocznę nie od sudańskiej muzyki, lecz od muzyki dla Sudanu.

Inicjatywa „Beat for Peace” – www.sudan365.org rozpoczęła swoją działalność rok przed planowanym na 9 stycznia 2011 referendum w sprawie przyszłości Sudanu Południowego (niepodległość bądź sojusz z Północą w ramach jednego państwa). Celem jej działalności jest zwrócenie opinii publicznej świata na Sudan i zbliżające się referendum. Musimy zrobić wszystko co w naszej mocy, aby głosowanie odbyło się i przebiegło pokojowo. Nie możemy pozwolić na eskalację przemocy i wybuch kolejnego konfliktu zbrojnego. Byłoby to równoznaczne  z kontynuacją najdłużej trwającej i jednej z najbardziej krwawych wojen w Afryce, zaledwie po pięciu latach oddechu – zawieszenia broni.

„Sudan 365 was launched on 9 January 2010, 365 days from when a referendum is due to be held to determine the future of Sudan. The people of South Sudan will vote to decide whether they wish to remain part of a united Sudan or whether they want to become an independent country.

We believe it should be a future in which human rights are guaranteed in an environment of peace, prosperity and harmony.

Our fear is that it could be a future of conflict and suffering.

The referendum is important as it was a key element of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement. This agreement was signed in 2005, after more than twenty years of war.

The war killed over 2 million people.

It displaced over 4 million from their homes.

It caused suffering, trauma and uncertainty for millions.

The peace agreement heralded a brighter future. It promised deep reform and national elections.  And it stated that in January 2011, there would be a referendum in the south. This would allow the South to decide its future through the ballot box – and not through the gun.

With 365 days until the vote, much of the agreement has not been implemented. Tension between the North and South are growing. In 2009, over 2,500 people were killed. Over 350, 000 were displaced.

In Darfur, following a conflict in which hundreds of thousands of civilians died, attacks against civilians continue and millions suffer daily in camps. After seven years of violence, a peace agreement still has not been reached.

Many fear the situation will get worse. Unless we, and our governments, stand together with the people of Sudan and demand that conflict is prevented and that human rights are protected..
